Assignment 2: Memo (10% of final grade)

This is a team project. Teams will consist of 3 team members each with a specific role: Topic Supervisor, Research Director, Submission Manager.

Prompt: Identify a problem or issue within NYC infrastructure that you think could be improved, or explore something that could be a positive addition to the city. you could choose to focus on transit, accessibility, housing, or a number of other issues critical to the city’s landscape. This memo will describe and discuss the problem, issue or innovation you choose to explore, and include a recommendation for how the issue might be addressed or where one might start working towards getting the innovation implemented.

You will discuss your topic and roles within discussion boards and provide updates and submit a draft for revision. Working together is key. Be respectful and helpful to your teammates.

Roles: Topic Supervisor will introduce the topic and keep track of all project requirements. Research Director will lead group in researching and incorporating at least 2 sources (one scholarly source and one news/popular media source). Submission Manager will compile and submit the team’s work.

Length: Approx. 1-2 page maximum + Team contribution notes.

Format: explore how these types of memos are formatted within the industry. If you use a specific model for your memo, provide a link to it. (For a model of what a memo can look like, see the sample memo on pages 372-374 of Technical Communication).
